At the end of my trip to O'ahu, I was resigned to think that real Hawaiian poke wasn't for me. Granted, we only got poke from Foodland, so what do I know? But I wanted to give it another go before heading to the airport, and after a quick Yelp search, we spontaneously came here. The parking lot is small and chaotic, and there was a long line for their poke. They're a regular market, selling raw fish and other snacks, but everything is fresh- we saw them preparing the entire tuna body for sale which was cool to watch. Their ahi is good, but their marlin was especially rich in flavor and delicious! You can order it as a meal set with warm rich as well. The sauces were simple and straightforward which I appreciated as you were still able to taste the fish itself.

Tamashiro Market was very much no on my list of new places to try in Oahu. But when the sushi chef at the omakase restaurant tells you this is where he gets his fish, well, you pay attention quickly and head on over as soon as the opportunity arises. By this point I was pretty disgustingly full from all the food that I had been eating, so I went for an ahi onion poke bowl and blue marlin poke on the side. All I'm gonna say is...this is straight up FIRE. Of all the poke I've had on the island, this is the best...PERIOD. Staff here are really friendly! Told them we were noobs, they explained everything well. When you check out, they'll give you all the utensils and napkins you need! So yeah, I will definitely need to come back here next time I come to Oahu. Too good. Just too good!

My family always stops by here whenever we need a certain type of fish for dinner. We especially love the Hamachi Kama. I always make sure to get some spicy tuna poke as a treat. Just a heads up that the parking lot is incredibly small and not laid out very well. Street parking is also tough.

Tamashiro Market offers a taste of poke in its purest, most authentic form. Beyond the familiar ahi, a diverse array of other fishes awaits, including my personal favorite, the elusive aku. Here, the focus is on the fish - not fancy toppings. Imagine glistening cubes of ahi, aku, or kajiki. It's a journey back in time, a taste of Hawaii history in every bite.

Went early this AM in hope of finding fresh urchin but it didn't come in ( comes from San Diego). My friend and I decided to order our poke bowls for lunch. So let me tell you a couple reasons they get all five stars: 1) the guys are so helpful and greeted us with smiles! 2) they do not overfill your bowl with rice ( see in the picture) and all the extras was just perfect ! I'm talking about presentation -green onions, seaweed, pickled ginger -wow' just over the top! I'm eating my bowl and it is sooo yummy and for $12.95 can't beat that price! I will be back !!

Came here to get some sashimi. Good quality fish. Different grades of tuna and got king salmon from NZ too but I had to skin it and pick some small bones out. Price was OK, not cheap but not ridiculously expensive. The tuna belly was $42 per lb. Their octopus was good. There were 2 kinds. The more expensive one was supposed to be more tender. Their crab shrimp scallop poke was to die for. I'd totally come back just for that alone. It's a small market with a small parking lot but I was lucky to find parking. Staff were friendly enough. Depends on who's serving you. One guy seemed more easygoing and was willing to do more with the fish than another.

Easily the best poke I've had so far!! The spicy ahi poke was so fresh and the sauce had amazing flavor! Each poke bowl is paired with taegu, pickled ginger, and nori. I opted for the sushi rice which was the perfect accompaniment. I still think about the poke here and can't wait to go back for more!

Fresh poke and fish. Sometimes the size of the poke depends on the fish type. A classic poke bowl comes with rice, your choice of poke, and some pickled ginger. Hubby and I like the surf clam but they haven't had it in a while. Shucks. Picked up some spicy ahi poke and the other clam salad instead. They have a limited number of veggies and snacks. Limited parking in front of Tamashiro. You may park for less than 30 minutes at the church across the street if you're shopping at Tamashiro. Park within your lines and cross the street safely. Happy eating. SYOY!

Local poke in Kalihi, Honolulu, Hawaii... When the search for poke (raw fish) began, Ryan M. suggested Tamashiro Market. I was thinking, "Nah". However, Ryan is correct. Tamashiro's has authentic poke... the kind with inamona and ogo... Without mayonnaise!!! Haha! Tamashiro Market is an old school establishment. Before poke bowls became popular, Tamashiro's was where our parents would get poke! Haha! Located on the corner of King Street and Palama Street, Tamashiro Market is the pink building with a gigantic red crab on the top! It's in a sketchy neighborhood, so, I drove my friend from Northern California here. I told her to not catch the bus to Tamashiro Market; don't walk alone; and don't go after the sun goes down! LOL! There's a small free parking lot. Enter from Palama Street and exit to King Street. Inside, it's a basic grocery store with air conditioning, cement floors (wet in some places), and a fishy smell. Live lobsters and crabs, whole fish, fish fillets ready to make sashimi and poke, fresh produce, baked goods, cooking ingredients, tofu, and other items are available. In the back, the poke selection is in the display case. The gal behind the case was so nice to my friend (Maybe because my friend was wearing a lei - signifying that she's a tourist)! My friend was given so many samples of poke - the Hawaiian style with ogo and inamona, ginger poke, crab poke, spicy poke, ahi vs. aku poke, etc. Wow! That's really the Aloha Spirit! We ended up getting several varieties of poke. I enjoyed mine at home and she had hers in her hotel room! Thanks to Tamashiro Market for a unique experience... And to Ryan M. of Yelp San Diego for the suggestion! Note: Hawaiian style poke had a slight kick to it - must be from the chili pepper water?
